A party by my uncle’s friend was being held, and I was stuck there. It lasted around an hour, and I was told there was going to be other kids.
The meaning of “kids”? A bunch of toddlers, and one five year old. Big woop. So much for playing with them.
Thankfully, I had brought along my laptop. I eagerly took out my games and began to play.
I soon began to be sucked into my favorite game. A toddler cried, and I turned around. She was about four, and was now sitting next to me on the floor, wanting to see what I was doing.
Her mom was next to her, trying to get her to drink some water. She resisted, putting a tiny hand on the bottle and pushing away, squeaking “No, no”.
“Come on, the big brother” (she was talking about me, I realized) “wants you to drink some water, right?” Her mom said.
I turned around. Her mom was trying to motion for me to say yes. So I did. “Yes. Drink water,” I told the toddler, and turned back to the game.
Out of the corner of my eye, the toddler took a big sip from the glass, choked on it, and then looked at me like it was all my fault.
“Drink more,” her mom insisted, looking at me again, “because Big Brother wants you to!”
“Yes. Drink more water!” I repeated, and once again the toddler drank the water until it was all gone. She then once again looked at me evilly like she was planning revenge.
About twenty minutes later, the toddler’s mom wanted to feed her some strawberries. She was, of course, absorbed in watching me build a theme park in my game.
“No, no!” She said without looking, and pushed away.
“But Big Brother wants you to,” she said. “Don’t you?”
“Yes,” I said absentmindedly.
“Eat more strawberries,” her mom said again, prompting me.
“Eat more strawberries,” I repeated.
“Or else I’ll get mad at you!” she said.
“Or else your mom will get mad at you.” I said, repeating with a twist.
Her mom laughed, and the toddler laughed too, not understanding what we had said, but wanting to laugh along.
Her mom stuck a strawberry into her laughing mouth. Her eyes widened in surprise, and then looked at me devilishly.
I looked away, pretending to concentrate on my game.
