The Biggest April Fools Prank

My teacher pulled the biggest prank on me on April Fools. We all knew the teachers were going to pull a prank; they did this every year.

My friends tried pulling a prank on the teacher as well, but it was nothing compared to the teacher’s.

“Can you come to my birthday party?” One friend asked me. “Its on April 39th.”

“The chalkboard fell off like… a second ago!” Another said.

I grinned. April 1st was always fun.

TEACHER!“, grinned the first friend, “Can you come to my party?” He gave her an invitation.

“Oh, I think I’m busy on April 39th, if you catch my drift,” the teacher said. Everyone giggled.

Just then, the teacher said, “I have something very important to tell you.”

We gathered around.

“You know the TAKS test, right?” She asked. Of course we did. It was a state-required test that we had to take to get to the next grade.

“Well, the state lost some of the scores for our class last night. They just emailed me about it.”

I looked at my friend, grinning, knowing any moment she would say APRIL FOOLS, and it would be the end of it.

She didn’t.

“This isn’t a joke. It’ll be on the news tonight… yeah. It’s a big thing.”

“A few students from our school had their scores lost. The people will be named after lunch when I receive their email, and those people will need to retake the test.”

We looked at each other. “April fools?” A student asked hopefully. Our teacher shook her head.

“After lunch” came faster than we thought.

“Well,” the teacher began, “There were 8 students in our classes, and only 3 in the other class.”

We groaned. “That’s just great,” said a friend. “Just great.”

She began naming names.

8 names she said, just as she promised. I was not in them.

Most of the students cheered, for they had not been chosen. The eight students either groaned or cried.

For the people that were “the chosen ones”, she gave them each a letter with a very official stamp on it that read “OFFICIAL DISTRICT MAIL”.

“You may open the letter if you’d like.”

A girl sitting next to me immediately began ripping open the letter.

Exactly four seconds later, the room burst into screaming.

First it was one person. Then another. Then another.

I didn’t realize what was happening, but when you’re a kid, you learn that whenever the teacher lets you scream, you scream. Chances can disappear pretty quick.

“LIAR! LIAR!” The girl next to me screeched as she threw down the letter. I looked down.

In little rows, the letter said:

APRIL FOOLS!
YOU GOT FOOLED.
APRIL FOOLS!
YOU GOT FOOLED.

We screamed for five minutes.

Finally, the teacher told us to calm down.

“You tricked us!” screeched one.

“You even pinky-promised me!” yelled another, to the gasping of everyone.

It was funny that the entire class was immersed in blaming the teacher for this and that when they’d usually read a book or draw than do something not concerning themselves.

“I had my fingers crossed.” the teacher said simply. “You didn’t even notice.”

A lot of people in class have vowed to make her pay. Personally, I can’t wait to see what they do.
