Laser Tag! Part One

A few weeks ago, I began to watch a Chinese TV show about being in the army. They used really cool laser rifles, and of course as a kid, I just had to try that out (without actually hurting anyone).

Well, it turned out I got invited to my good friend (I have a lot of good friends) Erv’s birthday party.

The best part?

It was at the local laser tag arena.

How cool is that? Very.

So this morning, I drove down to the arena, thinking horribly that I was late. When I got there, Erv was peering out the window, like he was watching the world blow up.

Worried, I ran into the building. The moment he saw me, he suddenly smiled.

“Sorry I’m late.” I told him as I put my present on the table.

“You’re the first one,” he told me.

“Oh,” I said, as he ran out of the door greeting somebody else.

Twenty minutes later, I was standing in a dark room as the instructor explained to the six people how to play.

A few seconds later, I had grabbed the Decryption, one of their packs that you had to wear.

Next to me was a big opening and beyond that was darkness. I could make out a fort, something to hide behind, and some small glowing lights.

This was going to be so much fun.

As soon as he let us go, I ran out and found the stairway to the top of the fort as fast as I could. In place, I waited.

A few seconds later, my pack lit up as bright as a light bulb. Compared to the total darkness around me. My weapon turned red, and a voice on the intercom said, “Ready to go.”

All around me, music that sounded like it was from Halo began playing. I quickly saw a few people below me and fired.

“You’ve been hit! Take cover!” said a voice on the person’s back as I ducked behind a wall, thinking whether I should dare shoot again. I didn’t need to choose, for suddenly my pack turned white, and a voice said at me, “You’ve been hit. Take cover!”

I silently cursed and turned around. Someone was shooting. I could tell from the red pack and the laser as it shot me again and again.

I quickly ran out of reach, and then shot him when he wasn’t looking. Payback.

As soon as he left, I ran to the very top. It was so much easier shooting up to down then down to up. That was, until somebody shouted, “Someone’s shooting!”

Uh-oh. I ducked, and shot two people three times while they headed up the ramps, then ducked away.

I shot through the grills on the floor. They never had a chance. They didn’t know I was up there.

Then suddenly there were four guns shooting at me.

Nope, I did neither. I silently cursed the word “curses”.
