Just today, I encountered two girls chatting.
The conversation related to the slushies (a type of drink) that were always sold at my local gym. They costed only one dollar, yet both teens didn’t have that.
As I walked by, here is what I heard:
“Why can’t you buy me a slushie? I want a slushie!” The girl with the pink shirt said.
“Well, you’re in luck, ’cause I want one too!” The other said.
“Well, how much money do you have?”
“How much money do you have?”
“Broke.” The pink girl said.
“Nope, you bought a snack bar when we got here, and the machine gave you change.”
“Oh, fine. Twenty cents.”
“I got eighty cents.” The other girl (who had a ponytail) said.
“Perfect! That means we have enough to buy me a slushie!”
“Oh, perfect for me, you mean. We have enough to buy me a slushie.”
“Why?”
“Because I want one,” the other said as I walked away and could not hear them.
I translated it into Chinese for my mom when we were far away.
