A Strong Bond
Peanut has always loved our family being whole, but I didn’t expect it that hard.
My aunt, Mom, Dad, and I were out for a walk, peacefully striding towards a house for sale. My aunt told us about it, and we wanted to take a look, as she wanted to buy it.
When we got there, my dad and my aunt were let into the house by a realtor who was waiting for them. As they waved goodbye and went into the house, they left Mom, Peanut, and me outside.
I cannot at all take standing there, watching the grass grow. Same with my mom. She about totally blew up the moment they left us alone.
“I have other things to do than stand here… like swimming! Come on!†and we began to leave.
But Peanut had other ideas.
I bet he was probably thinking, Hey! What is going on here? Do you have memory loss or something? There are people in there! PEOPLE! Why don’t we wait… But we couldn’t let him wait.
We pulled on his leash, and this time Peanut came over to my mom. We were reassured for about ½ second, before we realized he was biting my mom’s leg and pants. My mom yelled for him to stop.
Then he ran back to the door, barked, and then ran back to us, wrapping his leash around my mom’s leg, and then barked until my mom finally got the leash off.
Then we remembered about the time I told my mom, “Dogs have a short immediate memory, you know. You just need to get him to think about other things.”
BINGO! So while Peanut was going crazy and probably trying to tell us to wait, my mom went over and picked him up. Peanut instantaneously stopped and opened his mouth as my mom began to rub his belly.
Peanut absolutely loves people to rub his belly, and he’ll like you too if you rub his belly. He opened his mouth up and began to relax. He pulled his paws close to his mouth and he laid his feet down. Then, my mom, curdling him like a little baby, slowly walked until we were a bit away from the house.
From there everything was easy. He totally forgot about everything and probably felt like we were coming home from a walk. Which we were. He trotted home happily without a second thought, and minutes later, we were having fun at the pool.
Just shows what a bit of rubbing in the tummy can do to a pup.
