One of my family members has an accordion. I first saw it at a beach party we had on Sunday. It was the birthday of two people in our humongous family, so we just brought one cake and called it a generic birthday.
Well, that family member took out his accordion and played it to the tune of “Happy Birthday”. A few people groaned and called his music an old, slow, slumping toad but I thought it was pretty good.
I tried it out after the party with my cousin (about 14 years old) and she took it upstairs. She tried first and immediately began attempting to play “Row, Row, Row your Boat” after she got the hang of it.
It sounded more like some music Frankenstein played. The notes were off tune, and all messed up.
I decided to try, but moments later, I realized I was even worse!
The accordion was very heavy I almost fell over the moment I put it on, so my cousin and I put it on a table and she pulled the side with the chords and buttons while I held it and played a few notes.
Just then, my dad came in. Together, my cousin and him put it on me but it was so heavy I was just about to let it go and let it drop to the ground like a slinky.
I gave the accordion to my dad, who took it back downstairs. It was fun, but also really heavy.
Later on, I learned that the buttons actually were chords that could be pressed! Press one key, and two others go down too! Except I like the piano-looking keys better. I’d rather play them using both hands, although I know why they made the buttons: so you could play chords with the other pulling hand.
Accordions are fun!
