First Kayak

“This one is good.”

The sentence my dad said after trying out a kayak in Gander Mtn.

The sentence I said too.

The sentence that made us decide to buy the green, lightly worn, kayak.

A really nice worker named William helped us heave the kayak into our van. It fit perfectly if part of the kayak extended a bit into the space between the two front seats.

I jumped into my seat and drove away. We decided to party and ate pizza at the Incredible Pizza Company. By the time we got home, it was 9:00 in the night. I jumped into bed dreaming of me inside a kayak going down a waterfall.

The next morning after my mom left to go exercise, we drove the van away with the kayak inside to a nearby lake.

I hopped out of the car with Peanut, who had hitched the ride with us. When we got there, I smiled grandly.

The fun had just begun.

We heaved the kayak to the lowest spot on the edge of the lake we could find that was close enough. I carefully stepped onto the kayak and started backing up slowly until I was sitting on it.

I took my paddle and swiftly glided away.

When I reached near the other side of the lake, I stopped for a second. The fountain just ahead of me had a raining feeling. It felt good.

Of course I was really excited about coming all this way myself. So I whipped myself around and started moving out the other way.

Rowing and rowing on that kayak of mine, I felt like this was a great buy I had gotten. Of course I just felt great.

I stopped in front of my dad.

“You wanna get on?” I asked him.

This was going to be his first time on this kayak, too.

So he got on carefully and rowed all the way to where I went about half as slow as I went. I was astounded. My dad looked at me after he stopped the kayak. He asked me if I wanted to kayak some more.

I gladly accepted, and jumped in. Actually, I carefully sat down, and grabbed my paddle. Then I began to row. My dad left me alone on the lake to chase Peanut, who had ran off.

I, being not a bit bored, decided to follow them. I rowed along the “shoreline”. My dad stopped, and I pushed myself so that the right edge of my kayak was touching the side of the lake.

My dad looked at me. I looked at him. Peanut barked.

Dad mentioned a good idea: letting Peanut onboard. I guess Peanut wanted to anyway’s. Just take a look at it, he probably thought, until I pushed the side and we left.

While kayaking, I told my puppy, “Welcome to the Carnival Kayak! I am your captain, shipmate, passenger… you get the idea. We will be going around the dangerous iceberg today (the fountain).”

Peanut barked.

I lead Peanut around the fountain until I got bored. Then I hollered for my dad, who pulled me up back onto the grass.

It was a GREAT first time trip.
