When I lay down and look at the sky,

I wonder why the clouds float by,

I go and ask them why,

But asking them I get no reply.

They leave me to wonder very deep,

In a huge dark thoughtless heap,

I’ve even tried to jump and leap,

But the secrets of the sky they keep.

When I try to jump high,

I know that birds can fly,

I think they may know why,

But again there is no reply.

So there I am thoughtless in sleep,

In a huge and thankless heap,

For I’ve tried to jump and leap,

But the secrets of the sky they keep.

The birds that soar,

Ask the sky for more,

When they know they keep it in thier core,

And asking for a simple tour,

Won’t help, because they are the ones that soar.

I think I will need to guess and check,

Then look up and stretch my neck,

For even if I ask and check,

They will only look and peck.

So now I look at the sky,

Hopelessly asking them why,

But until the birds die,

And never again fly,

I will receive no reply.
